Just thought I would post the various suggestions for new papers that have been put forward recently -

Constructing a CV

Most of these have come through to us via all the verification visits we have been doing recently but if you have any comments re the above, please post them here or contact the eDCC office.

Most of you should have received the March issue of the eDCC newsletter by now but if you haven't - please contact the eDCC office. You do need to register your email address with us if you wish to be on our mailing list since we will only be issuing the newsletter via email and the website.

Have you checked out www.teach-ict.com? It's a website mentioned in the 'online tutorial support for candidates' topic and is a really useful site for resources, news and video tutorials etc.

You must have been sent the CD a few weeks ago because we have realised the problem with the pdf version of the batch sheets and have since included both formats on the CD. If you contact the eDCC office with your details I can resend a CD and obviously in the interim - as you have said - you can download word docs from the website.

New CD Roms

Hi There

I have noticed on the new 2010 cd rom that you have converted all the docs to pdfs. At the moment on the website your papers are still in the old word format but I assume you plan to change these too? If so, can you leave the batch sheets in word since I like to type the candidates info directly on to these rather than write by hand?

Hi Cathy,
Yes, at Macclesfield College the tutors read out the tasks to the students.
We usually write an assessment paper around the task list, which would give for example a passage to type in and then a series of exercises on it in order to fulfill all the tasks.

I am new to eDCC and have one blind student who I am hoping will achieve some of the qualifications. Can anyone advise me whether the instructions are allowed to be dictated to the student or does she have to read it using the screen-reader JAWS?

eDCC for the Visually Impaired

At Macclesfield College in Cheshire we use eDCC courses as a basis for training visually impaired students to access a computer, using the screen-reader JAWS. We currently have 18 blind and visually impaired students, whom we teach on a one-to-one basis. So far, we have run courses in Word Processing, Email, Internet, Database, Spreadsheets and Presentation.

Our students have a wide variety of learning styles. We find that eDCC gives each of them the chance to progress at their own speed and to repeat tasks until they can achieve them confidently.

We would be very pleased to hear from any other people who use eDCC with the visually impaired, in order to exchange ideas and experiences.

We are glad to be help where we can. To be honest there is no reason to have passwords for downloading the papers, after all they are universally available or were until the recent website reconstruction. Thanks for pointing it out.

These new papers sound intriguing and VERY useful, as many of our learners work on recycling projects. I am fairly certain we could include computers, as they are enthusiastic users and are now about to undertake Entry Level Functional Skills in ICT, English and Maths. You are visiting me at Peterborough College in Nov, so we could discuss it then and see if we can assist you.

Hi, guys. I am really pleased to see the forum reinstated. Two weeks ago, I contacted Rachel to ask why we couldn't download papers without passwords (something that would be difficult for my LLDD learners, as passwords can be elusive). I have just logged on to the site and lo and behold, my problem has been resolved - no password needed! How is that for service? TY

online tutorial support for candidates

I have been looking for some online resources that neatly cover the tasks for Word Processing, I was wondering does anybody know of any tutorial videos that are easily available on sites like Youtube that you would recommend?
